Ecotourism Attractions: Vientiane Province (not to be confused with the neighboring
Vientiane Capital, the Capital of Laos) has very good sites for rafting and kayaking.
Kayaking is possible on the Song River, the Nam Lik River and the Nam Ngum River.
There is a new ecotourism accommodation located on the Nam Lik River operated by
Adventure Lao.
For birdwatchers, visit Ban Sivilay village, a popular site for viewing a good variety
of birds at an artificial lake located near the village. The villagers protect the birds and
benefit from your visit by charging a small entrance fee to the lake.
The Phou Phanang National Protected Area is not frequently visited by tourists but has the worthy attraction of a herd of wild elephants. For viewing the wild elephants it is recommended that you book through a tour agent and/or take a local village guide. On the way to Phou Phanang is a very popular waterfall, the Namsuang.
